Trustee Lonnie Vestal will be resigning his seat as a Deerfield Township Trustee, effective December 31, 2019.
Ohio Revised Code 503.24 provides the general timing and appointment procedures for vacancies in Ohio township offices. Within 30 days of the vacancy, the Board of Township Trustees shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term or until a successor is elected. If the Board, however, is unable to make an appointment within 30 days, a majority of the people designated as the committee of five on the last filed nominating petition of the township officer whose vacancy is to be filled, shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy. If the committee of five is unable to reach agreement on an appointment within 10 days of the 30-day appointment period, then the presiding probate judge of the county shall appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
Deerfield Township Trustees Lelle Lutts Hedding and Kristin Malhotra are seeking qualified applicants to fill a vacancy on the Deerfield Township Board due to the resignation of Trustee Lonnie Vestal. Deerfield Township Trustee is an elected position, filled by popular vote to a four-year term. The appointee to this vacancy will serve the remainder of the unexpired term that ends on January 1, 2022.
Applicants must be a qualified elector and a resident of the township. (Article XV, Section 4, of the Constitution of Ohio, O.R.C. 3.15(A)(3), O.R.C. 3503.01.) To be a qualified elector a person must be 18 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen, and have lived in the Township at least thirty days prior to submitting the application. - Cover letter detailing why you are interested in joining the Deerfield Township Board and what past public service experience you feel makes you a valuable candidate.

Qualified candidates should submit these materials to the Township’s HR office (Alicia Hamann, ahamann@deerfieldtwp.com) by 8:00 a.m. on Monday December 30, 2019. It is anticipated that interviews will take place in early January and a new Trustee will be appointed at the January 21, 2020 meeting.
